Mr. K. V. K. Alwis

Mr. Alwis is the Director of the Payments and Settlements Department at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. He is a distinguished professional in the field of Information Technology, holding a Master of Technology from the Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, and a Bachelor’s in Computer Science from the University of Colombo. With over 26 years of experience in Information Technology and Payments and Settlements, Mr. Alwis is a career central banker who began his tenure at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in 1997.

As a Project Manager, Mr. Alwis spearheaded the implementation of the Real Time Gross Settlements System, the large value Payments and Settlements System in Sri Lanka. His leadership and technical expertise have been pivotal in delivering numerous large IT projects within the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, significantly advancing the financial industry.

In addition to his role at the Central Bank, Mr. Alwis is a Director of the Lanka Financial Services Bureau and a former Director of LankaPay (Pvt) Ltd. He serves as the Secretary of the National Payments Council and he was the Chairman of the Digital Financial Services Committee, responsible for preparing the Digital Economy Strategy 2030. His extensive contributions and leadership in these roles underscore his commitment to enhancing the digital financial landscape of Sri Lanka.
